Cowboy Dressage Newsletter

December 2012

It is that time of year when I can slow down enough to try and catch up with you all. As usual 2012 was busy and eventful with many new projects and enterprises. Trying to keep up with all of them has kept  Eitan and I at warp speed often not knowing if the dog is wagging his tail or the tail is wagging his dog. Life continues to be good and we are blessed with good health, good friendships, good horses and wonderful loyal support. We could not do what we do without you, so a big Thank You to All.

We wish you a wonderful holiday season with lots of laughter and good health. More wishes for the very best in 2013 and may our paths cross in the near future.

Western Dressage/Cowboy Dressage

In 2010 Eitan was one of the founding fathers of Western Dressage.  This new association was founded because of the work Eitan did with his Cowboy Dressage over many previous years in the show ring and as a clinician/educator and entertainer. In November of 2012 Eitan left The Western Dressage Association of America.  Western Dressage had developed a vision that did not coincide with Eitan’s work or his original vision of what Western Dressage was supposed to be. Eitan is now back to his original Cowboy Dressage, always his first love and his passion.

There is a difference between the two.. Cowboy Dressage is about a Western Horse that is enhanced by Dressage, not ruled by it. It is very popular and gaining lots of momentum here on the west coast and across the country.

You can find out what Eitan has developed at
To say that it is innovative is an understatement.

We completely understand the confusion between Western Dressage and Cowboy Dressage. For one, Cowboy Dressage is more western, has a court designed that is more suitable for the movement and conformation of the western horse. There is a lot more freedom in the rules and a higher scoring on lightness and soft feel. Cowboy Dressage is not governed by USEF. Cowboy Dressage and Western Dressage were both founded by Eitan Beth-Halachmy. He has left Western Dressage Association of America due to differences in vision and has gone back to his original love of Cowboy Dressage.

Anyone can go to either website and study the differences. The answers are there. At you will find all the tests, rules, judging criteria etc. There are also many video clips that give you a good idea of what it is. Explanations about the court and WHY it was changed is there as well. Lots of information that should answer most questions. You can also go to the YouTube cowboy dressage channel for video

We are not trying to convert anyone to Cowboy Dressage. The merit of what it is and represents stands on its own. It may not be for everyone but for those of you who do like it we welcome you.

Cowboy Dressage World

Everything worthwhile takes a lot of hard work. In the case of Cowboy Dressage with its explosive growth and demands it now takes the hard work of a hard working team of dedicated horsemen and women with the same vision and passion.

Lyn Ringrose Moe and her husband John Moe, Susan and Terry Tomasini and Melissa and Garn Walker have joined us in a partnership and formed Cowboy Dressage World.  Never has a better match and a group of “git er done” folks joined together to bring better horsemanship and competition to the western public. These people are leaders, innovative, risk takers, superb teachers and horsemen and women in their own rights. They ride what they teach and have the miles in the saddle to know of what they speak.  This group brings together the energy and passion that it takes to make Cowboy Dressage happen and keep happening.

Stay tuned as shows and clinics develop with this group up and down the west coast and across the nation.,,,

A very special thank you to Sarah Dickinson, Kelly Denison, Ron Smith and Vernice Karbe, Susan Carlino and Dale Rumens-Partee  for their continued help and support.

Cowboy Dressage, Then and Now

Eitan made a mini documentary of the history of Cowboy Dressage.  It can be seen for free on our website at: You will enjoy it as it takes you from his childhood in Israel to today’s competition. It is a good watch and fabulous music and horsemanship. Some of the new Cowboy Dressage tests are on there too. Oh, and yes we know about the spelling errors… Eitan spells like he talks…with an accent.

Cowboy Dressage Classes at the Mother Lode Show a Big, Big Hit!

In June of 2012 our Cowboy Dressage Group decided to put on their first horse show. Our new Cowboy Dressage tests and classes were to debut at the end of September at the Mother Lode Horse show put on by the Sacramento Valley Morgan Horse Club. It is expertly managed by Kelly Rose (Denison) and Ron Smith. With a real team effort we pushed ahead and it was a huge success. A clinic was given the day before the show and we had about 150 people there. The next day there were 65 rides! We were thrilled and our hunch was right…… this kind of horsemanship is desired and needed in the western world.

Our new Cowboy Dressage Court was set up, the weather was perfect and we all had a great time. You name the breed and it was there. Kids to grandparents tested their skills. So much fun. Someone said it was like the old horse show days when people gathered and just had a good time with their horses.

The Mother Lode Show will once again host these classes the same time next year at the Rancho Murieta Equestrian Center in Rancho Murieta, CA.

Santa Fe Renegade Congratulates his Sons and Daughters on Another Winning World Championship Horse Show.
Like 2011, 2012 was another fantastic year for Santa Fe Renegade babies at the Morgan World Championships. We want to extend a very special thank you to the owner’s, trainers and breeders of these wonderful, talented and beautiful horses. We are proud and honored to have them all in our horse family. Eitan and I are especially excited to see Santa Fe babies competing well in the Amateur and Jr. Exhibitor divisions. Like Santa Fe these horses are good citizens and suitable mounts for the majority of today’s riders.

Congrats to National, World, Resv.World and Top ten title holders for 2012:
Holiday Bonita Fe, Holiday Pachita Fe, Merriwold Jesse James, Most Wanted, EV Santa Fe Special, Meadowcreek Bay B Fe, Artful Image and Jose Wales.

Jumps West
Jumps West (Cowboy Solutions)

Over the last 6 months we have been working with Jumps West and Cowboy Solutions on developing a new Cowboy Dressage Court. Allyn Van Alstyne has been a great help and supporter with this project.  After 3 prototypes we finally have our dream court.  It is beautiful and very, very western.  It is our plan to debut it at the West Coast Cowboy Dressage Clinic in Central Point,  OR, Feb 15-17, 2013. We think you will all agree that this new court captures the western spirit of Cowboy Dressage. We are very excited.

There are various Cowboy Dressage Courts at different price levels available. If you are interested give Allyn a call and she will be happy to help you with a court that will fit your budget and needs., 866.389.0018 or,

Congratulations to Kelley Rankin of Astoria, OR on the Purchase of Holiday Sunny Fe.
We couldn’t be more thrilled than to send one of best Santa Fe Renegade colts to Kelley. She is “family” and sending her this colt was just the icing on the cake to a longtime friendship. This is a very special colt and he has found a loving home. We will be anticipating great things from these two.
Love you Kelley!

Succeed by Freedom Health
Succeed is product that has become the health foundation to our feeding program here at Wolf Creek. We always felt we knew what we needed to know about the inside and outside of a horse. Once we learned more about ulcers we began to realize we needed to learn a lot more. Did you know that almost all stalled horses have ulcers?  Over 60%. Not only do they have stomach ulcers but they have colonic ulcers too. You can scope the stomach but you can’t scope the colon.

When we had horses that were difficult, not wanting to work, hard to engage, hard to bend or just plain cranky and we ignorantly blamed the horse. In hindsight it was most likely ulcers. They hurt and it was painful. We wish we could apologize to those horses. Ignorance was not excuse.

We have now educated ourselves about the effects of stalling, hauling and stress on horses. They need pasture and grazing for the stomach to be at is best. For stalled and stressed horses  Succeed supplies “the pasture” that they do not get in a stall. It treats the stomach and colon.  Many of the other products (more expensive) do not treat the colon.
This is not meant to be a sales pitch. We just wish to share Succeed with you as it is a very good product and can save your horse a lot of grief and make him a better work partner. Our horses are on it and as you know we demand a lot from them. Succeed helps them meet our demands and be happy doing it.

Succeed offers a simple test for stomach and colonic ulcers.  It is a must “to do” for your show barn. It is as important as worming, vacs etc. Learn more and you and your horse will be glad you did.

New Gold Addition to arrive at Wolf Creek in Jan 2013.
We did it again….we found a beautiful dark palomino Saddlebred yearling colt that we just had to have .He is a half-brother to our stunning gelding Cheyenne Gold. Comanche Gold is a yearling with two brown eyes, narrow strip and 4 high white stockings. He and Cheyenne’s full brother are in TX with Donna Duvall for some “education” before coming home. Donna does a great job and we are pleased she is putting a foundation on this youngster for us.

Donna came out and rode with Eitan this last spring. She fell in love with Cheyenne and had to have one of her own. Now she does. She bought his full brother “Trigger” and he is one big handsome colt. Eitan now says we should have taken them both.

Congratulations to Dianne Olds Rossie on the purchase of her new Saddlebred  Stallion.
Of course he is a palomino!!

That is a wrap for now!!!
